ROBERT G. EDWARDS

Hi everybody!
This time, our teacher has given us the work to write an article. First, we collected the information in groups about the Nobel prizes given in the last 16 years. Each person had to focus on one year and we wrote about different themes such as; physics, chemistry, literature, peace, economics and physiology and medicine. After that, we had to choose one of all of them, one that interested us the most.
In my case,  the topic I have chosen is physiology and medicine and the person who  I'm going to speak about, is Robert G. Edwards. But do you know why he is so famous? The answer is quite simple; this man is important because he pioneered in vitro fertilization. If you are interested and if you want to know more about him, read this writing!

Robert Geoffrey Edwards, was an English physiologist
and pioneer in reproductive medicine and in-vitro fertilisation
in particular. The term in vitro is Latin, and means "outside the body". He developed a technique to remove eggs from human ovaries, fertilize those eggs outside the human body, and then implant these fertilized eggs into a woman's womb for development into a human baby.

Robert G. Edwards, who opened a new era in medicine when he joined a colleague in developing in vitro fertilization, enabling millions of infertile couples to bring children into the world and women to have babies even in menopause,  he was awarded The Nobel prize in 2010. He essentially changed the rules for how people can come into the world.

Since child he liked a lot to experiment and really liked science. When he was young, very early, he started with his first significant experiments and he achieved many prizes. In addition, it's important to know that he studied in various places.

This huge invention, meant a new way to help infertile couples who formerly had no possibility of having a baby. In 2010 about 4 million children have been born by IVF, with approximately 170,000 coming from donated  oocyte and embryos.
Saying in other words, the success of this research has touched the lives of millions of people worldwide, and his dedication and single-minded determination despite opposition from many quarters has led to successful application of his pioneering research.

From my point of view, I think that he had been a great man. At least until nowadays, it has resolved many problems of fertilisation. For multitude of women this person is the dreamt man that had appeared in their life just in the necessary time.

THE SILHOUETTE OF THE SHIVER

Hello readers!
As you can see, I have published one  story called "The silhouette of the shiver". We have done 9 different stories in pairs and we have written one paragraph each of pair in our classmate's stories. In this one, my colleague and me have done the first and the last paragraphs. We decided to make a thriller story. However, I don't like that main character that dies, apart from that it's fine. So, this is one of  the result of our work. I hope you will like it!

A man got up of his bed and the first thing that he saw for his surprise was a letter that it was in the little table of his bedroom and he took carefully and at the same time worried with his bony and skeletal fingers. He didn’t know what to do with the anonymous envelope, it was quite big and he was sure that it hides more than a simple words, this could change his future in one open and close eyes. The bedroom was absolutely old, without looked after. The man put with a frivolous care the glass eye that was floating seconds before in a bowl, for him this was an ordinary and common effort, an effort that started since he received the first letter.

He decided to open the letter. Inside the letter he found a finger with a note. In the note was written a sentence “You find the killer of my son or I will say your secret to the authority of the city, and then you and your family will die”. Evaristo was preoccupied. Nobody knew his secret before, except his servant. The first thing he did when he opened and read the letter was to go to his servant and he asked for help.

The servant didn’t know anything about the letter and he believed him because when he was his servant, Evaristo noticed that the servant had never lied to him. Evaristo asked to help him with the case, and the servant accepted very nicely. They didn’t know what to do and they started thinking. Evaristo noticed that he told his secret to somebody before he told to his servant.

Because of the secret he had, he was very depreciated. So to forget his pains he started drinking beer one after the other. He was very drunk when he started to say things without thinking what was saying. He remembered that he saw a man with a strange aspect and he started to talk with him. The boy was asking a lot of things about his life to Evaristo and caused by the alcohol Evaristo told him everything. Including the secret he had.

While he was remembering that, he realise that he didn’t know anything about the strange man, and he neither remember his face. He was involved in a dangerous situation and he had to do something as quickly as he can. He didn’t know how to start investigating and he decided to turn to a detective that he know. Immediately, Evaristo left the house and took the way to the police station. He found it closed and he returned home to relax due to his tiredness. There he found a new letter.

He started worrying, he decided to not open the letter. He didn’t feel safe so he went to the wardrobe and he took his gun. Suddenly he heard:

- Evaristo, are you sure? It's not a good idea to take the gun.- Evaristo was becoming mad, he couldn’t see anybody talking to him. And he answered:

- If you want to talk to me, talk be face to face!.  He waited for 3 seconds. After he noticed that something was walking backwards him. He didn’t do anything, he just looked back and he saw himself in the other side of the mirror, and suddenly, he saw a ghost hand. He looked better, and he saw a ghost talking to his hear:

-Evaristo, now that I know your secret, don’t you think that its a bad idea to shoot that gun?

Evaristo was already mad, so he put his hand in his pocket to take the weapon but it was too late, the ghost had already taken a long knife, and it inserted in Evaristo’s heard saying with a threatening voice:

-This is my revenge for my death son!

The ghost completed his revenge but there was a witness, the butler. The butler was in the kitchen preparing the dinner, suddenly he noticed that the air was getting cold, and he felt a shiver. All the objects of the room started to shake and then, he saw the ghost. He got scared he started to run, he took the phone and called the police but before he could say a thing the ghost pull him back and throw him to the floor. The ghost hold him from the throat and squeezed until the butler’s throat explode. Suddenly the ghost heard the sound of the police siren’s.

The police was knocking the door, before they entered into the room the ghost was hidden behind the armchair. Immediately, the ghost saw a police emblem for the slit of the wardrobe. Quietly and with an indescriptible care, with his ghost starched hand took the uniform of a police, the first of the two victims. He wore the uniform and took a diary that seems interesting. He started talking with the polices and he disappeared like an ordinary police, covered with sirens until his silhouette passed unnoticed in the horizon.

Social websites

Hello readers!

As you know, nowadays everybody uses the social websites, such as twitter, facebook, tuenti, whatsapp... Our society, is surrounded with computers and mobile phones. We can spend hours in any of these websites without bored. This post is for all of you, for teenagers or for children that use any type of websites and for parents, if they don't know very well how it is all this world and if they want to learn more. I'm going to advise you how to use properly these pages, because they have already got a very big importance in young people's life.

These virtual pages are fantastic places to chat with your friends, to share your pictures and videos, to see people's pictures if you know too, to send them a message, to see the events that you have, also we have a possibility to play many games and other things. However, all this is fantastic if you use it correctly, and we are not conscious about the consequences that they could have. We always think that something bad or strange couldn't happen to us, but it can happen easily if you don't know how to control the privacy. So, to repair this, you must customise the settings. Remember that all the information that they require isn't obligatory, you can leave them in white, questions like; where do you live, your mobile phone number, your school... I recommend you to give as less information as possible, because it is going to be more difficult for someone that you don't know to localise you. Other advise that I give you is to change the password at least once a year, and don't tell it to anyone.

Another point we must have in mind is that when we say a friend in Tuenti or Facebook, we are not speaking about traditional friend that she/he is going to help us every time we need it. It's just someone that only we know by sight. Then, we have to be careful, because when you less expect it that person can be evil.

From my point of view, the social websites are very useful to speak with far away friends or family members. But always taking in account all I have said and the risks that it can have. I hope that you are going to follow my advice and be careful!

You can watch this video that explains how to customise the settings in Facebook.

Different cultures around the world

Hello to everyone!

Today, I have decided to write an article about the different cultures, and I have chosen this topic because I think that it's curious to know how live people in other places.  Have you ever thought about how many different cultures there are around the world? Are you interested in them? If the answer is yes you can study something more about the peoples live. Let's start!

Firstly, we have to know that there are more than 50.000 cultures. It seems impossible! But, what is the meaning of the culture? It is the way of life, is seen in people's writing, religion, music, clothes, cooking, and in what they do.

I will start explaining  the Arabian culture. In the Arab society, the family is one of the most important aspect. Always they have one person, normally is the father, like the head of the family. This person have to work and earn money to carry the family on. However, the women work at home, cooking, cleaning, taking care of children... It is said, that Arab culture teaches that the needs of the group are more important than the needs of one person.
The black stone

It's curious to know that the Arabians adored a black stone, that it is located in  the Mecca. It's the place where Muslims pray and their god is Ala and all people must go there at least once in their life to give three laps to the sacred stone.

In the second place, I'm going to focus in the Chinese culture. It's one of the oldest cultures in the world. As you know their typical drink is tea, and the ceremony of the tea is one of Chinese major contributions to the world culture.

Chinese rice
Regarding Chinese food, instead of eating with forks and knives, they eat with chopsticks and with a little spoon made of wood. It's good to know as a curiosity that the fish is prepare stew and is served entire. This way of serving the fish guarantees that it is as fresh as possible.
Concerning celebrations, the largest festival marks the beginning of the lunar new year. During the 15-day celebration, children receive money in red envelopes for good luck and people thorough clean their homes to signify a fresh beginning.

Finally, I'm going to explain the third society, the Indian culture. In their way of life, they do many strange things comparing with our culture. Such us, Indians find toilet paper repellent and consider it cleaner to splash water with the left hand in the appropriate direction. Consequently, the left hand is considered unclean and is never used for eating. Also, in this culture to stay widow is considered bad luck, otherwise, her husband wouldn't have died. And it is traditional to wear white, not black, to a funeral in India. If you want to know more  curiosities click here.
You can watch this video to know more about Indian culture:

So as you can see all the cultures are different, but all are interesting. I hope you've liked it! Bye:)

Here you have some of the websites where I have taken the information:
